Akira Dixon, Premier Credit Consultants

Please introduce yourself and tell us about your business. What is it called and what services / products do you offer?
Hi, I'm Akira J. Dixon. I'm the 28 year old owner of Premier Credit Consultants, LLC based in Brookhaven, Mississippi. I am a board certified credit consultant that offers credit score improvement and credit education to everyday consumers.

Can you share a bit about how you choose this line of business? What transition did you make to owning your own business?
Because I suffered from bad credit personally, I was on the hunt for someone to assist me. I found a company and just wasn't 100% impressed with education nor customer service, so I began the process on my own. At 26, I didn't know much but I knew with the internet, I could do it. I simply improved my own score from the low 500s and my excitement let me to want to help others. After becoming certified, I quit my job at the time as a cellphone representative and went full time.

Do you have any special training?
I'm certified as a credit consultant and a credit score improvement consultant through the Credit Consultants Association.

What are some of your biggest accomplishments as a business owner?
Any goal I can cross off my list is an accomplishment for me. I would have to say my biggest accomplishment was hitting a salary where I could help my friends and family grow. Prior to my business, I lived paycheck to paycheck and had terrible financial habits.

What mistakes have you made with your business? What did you learn from the experience and how did you bounce back?
My biggest mistake was being too comfortable. I became complacent and just didn't put forth all of ME as I did in the start of business. I went into "think tank" mode & came up with new ways to service my clients & creative ways to market. I read tons of marketing books and changed my focus.

What do you consider the most important elements of running a successful small business?
The most important element of running a successful small business is to be open to constructive criticism. Learning from your mistakes and applying what you've learned will make things so much more effective.

Do you have any start-up advice you can share with women reading this who would like to launch their own businesses?
Absolutely! First, believe in yourself! Everyone else may not understand but it's your VISION to manifest. Study greats, study the industry, be creative, & don't give up when times get hard.

Do you have any advice on managing your small business finances?
Yes! I live off percentages which I learned from Tiffany the Budgetnista. I set aside parts of my income to handle every aspect of life. I have 4 bank accounts & I only live off of 30% of my income.

How do you balance work and life owning a small business?
Time management is something I'm struggling with. I'm a mother as well so timing is everything. I try to schedule and make plans when they're school or at work. It's a struggle, but I get it done.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I'm in the beginning stages of franchising my company and training additional employees. In 5 years, I plan to have 5 locations in 5 different states & launching my non profit organizations. I also plan to totally teaching others how to start their own successful credit businesses.

Please share a fun fact about yourself.
Actually, everything about me is fun! I'm a total goof ball that loves to laugh and crack jokes. I'm always the life of the party!
