Is Your Home Well Protected? Secure Your Home, Save Money
Most people get home owners insurance because it's required in order for them to purchase their home or because it's the right thing to do when it comes to protecting their home and valuables which can cost a lot of money to repair or replace if they are damaged or stolen. The latter also applies to rental insurance.
"Have you ever sat down to review what's covered in your policy and/or taken an assessment of how secure your home is?"
But have you ever sat down to review what's covered in your policy and/or taken an assessment of how secure your home is? Don't have home owner's or renters insurance? If your answer is no to either of those questions, this blog post is for you.
Let's talk about securing your home!
1. Insuring your valuables
These would be things like expensive jewelry, watches etc. Typical home owners and renters insurance provides some coverage on valuables but you want to make sure that the policy actually covers the full value of replacing your items.
If not, you should seriously consider adding on personal article or jewelry insurance to fill in the gap. The last thing you want is for your jewelry to be lost or stolen and find out that your insurance barely covers the replacement cost.
2. Insuring your home based business or home office
If you have a home based business or if you have a home office and you already have home owner's and renter's insurance be sure that your policy covers your business and all the equipment in your home office.
You can also get independent business / office insurance that will provide you with coverage as well. This way in the event of damage or a burglary, you have the right coverage that you need.
3. Prepping your home against burglary
No one ever wants it to happen to them but burglaries occur; In fact, in the US there are about 1.7 million of them a year. That being said, it's a good idea to protect your home from a burglary. Consider getting an alarm system installed (you may qualify for discounts on your insurance policy if you have one), make sure there is good lightning at your entryway and strong locks or dead bolts on your doors.
In addition, be sure to check all your windows frequently to make sure they are locked when you are not home or if you are sleeping and consider getting a safe to store things like important documents and jewelry in your home.
Not only will these protective measures save you money, they will give you peace of mind too! Is your home well protected? What have you done to ensure that it is?
