The Finances of Being Female: Bola Onada Sokunbi Featured by Haven Life Insurance

Haven Life Insurance

I am super excited and honored to have been a part of Haven Life Insurance's first Facebook Live event where I participated with other female finance experts (Emma Johnson from Wealthy Single Mommy, Erin Lowry from Broke Millennial and Shannon McLay from The Financial Gym) in a discussion about the finances of being female!

Haven Life Insurance provides a much simpler, affordable option for buying term life insurance online in 20 minutes. Their team of 50+ (and growing) people comes from a variety of backgrounds including financial services startups, software development, public relations, consulting and more which make their diversity their advantage. They are people committed to encouraging transformation and are motivated to make a better experience for anyone who wants life insurance and to not perpetuate the status quo.

Some of the key learnings from the discussion include:

  • Women need to get financially naked with their partners and bare the good, bad and ugly in order to have a successful relationship.
  • Investing lingo and platforms are intimidating and unapproachable to many women.
  • Unfortunately, many marriages fail. And so women need to be prepared to ask for what they need and deserve in order to stay financially afloat post divorce.
  • Women are givers by nature and tend to give more financially than we receive. That could include saving less for retirement to put kids through school. We need to prioritize their own finances more.

It was such a fun and insightful discussion, be sure to watch the video HERE!
